Artist Statement:
Needle Felting is an art form dating back to ancient societies, which used natural organic fiber and various methods to sculpt the individual works of art into figures, vessels and wearables etc.
The work shown here is an example of a process called "Wet Felting" which uses natural organic fiber and water formed over a resist then agitated and shrunk to the required size which in turn creates a strong fiber bond then finished with embellishments, and blocked to maintain its shape.
The beauty of these vessels can certainly stand on their own as one of a kind works of art, however, in this case I have created them to have a utilitarian purpose as potpourri holders which allow for the free circulation of air and fragrance for the senses.
