DESCRIPTION:Don’t miss this very special show of smaller paintings\, photographs\, and more – all 12 inches by 12 inches and smaller! Featuring work by some of your favorite artists\, you’ll find oil paintings\, acrylics\, mixed media\, and watercolor – most of which fit easily into a suitcase or shipping envelope. These little beauties are perfect for that small corner or as a memento of a fabulous trip to the beach! The opening reception is Friday\, June 14 from 5 – 7 p.m. Come by to meet the artists and enjoy refreshments with us. DESCRIPTION:Abstract paintings to fit any corner of your house.\nIn this one-day workshop\, we will explore abstract painting in series to create four harmonious pieces to brighten any corner of your house. We will start working on a paper to make the first series and explore color combination\, composition\, and the importance of white space. The secret is using a homogeneous palate and mixing the colors to get all the shades that make your pieces cohesive but not matchy-matchy. \nAfter the basics\, we will work on wood boards to explore texture and the fun of working with college\, acrylics\, and dry media like soft and oil pastels. You will enjoy the positive power of colors and textures! \nNo previous experience is needed! SUMMARY:Spotlight Artist: Bob Moffett June 15 - July 15
DESCRIPTION:Works by professional wood turner Bob Moffet will be featured at Sunset River Gallery from June 15 – July 15. On display will be a range of items including lidded boxes\, platters\, bowls\, and larger art pieces. Bob is a past president of the Piedmont Woodturners Association and treasurer of the Chapel Hill Woodturners. His interest in woodturning grew after taking a series of courses at his local community college and at John C. Campbell Folk School. He has also studied with a number of turners including Bill and Jim Wallace\, Alan Batty\, Frank Penta\, Mike Stafford\, Aveleno Samuels\, among others. \nFor the past several years Bob has specialized in turning offset platters\, miniature bird house ornaments\, sea urchin ornaments\, bowls and boxes\, incorporating surface treatments such as texturing\, spiraling\, chatter\, beading\, and woodburning. We’re proud to feature Bob as our Spotlight Artist and hope you’ll be by to see his very special display.
