DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to have Chantal Tomiello back with more of her stunning work\, including two nine-foot acrylic paintings. This latest series\, The Shape of Light: Dreaming in Color\, is made up primarily of landscapes that feature her distinctive trees\, water\, and luminous skies. She says\, “I’m drawn to those elements because they hold so much stillness and movement at once. I’m not trying to capture a specific place. It’s more about what it feels like to really be in a moment. Present. Aware. Quiet. I think there’s magic in that kind of presence—in the way light changes\, or how a line leans just enough to make you pause. These paintings are a space where tension and serenity meet.”  The show runs from Saturday\, August 23 through Saturday Sept. 27. Bring your own supplies. \nIn this workshop we will practice working with our intuition and silencing our inner critics to create expressive art. Starting with exercises to help get the hand moving and the mind quiet\, we will work through the steps to tap into our intuition. The goal of this workshop (in addition to creating a couple pieces of wonderfully brave art!) is to learn to trust your intuition. \nMaterials list: \n\nTwo canvases (or paper\, board\, canvas board – any of these are welcome) in the 12×16 to 16×20 range\,\nPaints and brushes – whatever medium you are most comfortable with\, but acrylics allow for quick layering\nMulti-media also welcomed – paper\, photos\, found objects\, etc\nA notebook or journal for note taking\n\nBefore the class\, think about some words or a quote that have meaning to you. Four wildly different approaches to their art – the common thread being that they each upend the concept of mixed media\, using tools and materials to build layered pieces in a very unexpected fashion. The creative results reflect the out-of-the-box thinking of all four. Participating artists are Kathleen Spicer\, oil paint & wood; Kathleen V. Stuart\, fiber & encaustic; Therese Bisceglia\, oil paint & found objects; Michelle McKDavis\, oil paint & thread. Each artist takes traditional painting and sculpture ideas beyond expected boundaries. We think you’ll find the work as exciting and interesting as we do!  Distinctive Aesthetics opened Saturday\, Feb. 7  and runs through Saturday\, March 28. An insightful gallery talk is set for Saturday\, March 7 at 1 p.m.
