We will learn how to see the important areas of  your photo to help develop a likeness. \nWe will be discussing colors that will aid in telling the story. SUMMARY:Exhibition - Chantal Tomiello: The Shape of Light
DESCRIPTION:New works by Raleigh\, NC artist Chantal Tomiello will be featured at Sunset River Gallery in Calabash\, NC in a one-woman show titled The Shape of Light. The exhibit includes 20 of her original acrylic pieces showcasing her popular abstracted landscapes\, female figures\, and several ballet motif paintings. Gallery director Samantha Spalti said\, “Chantal knows just what to keep and what can fall away from her subjects\, leaving the viewer to experience something that is both familiar and brand new. Her work is contemporary but feels equally at home in a traditional setting. It’s ideal for the eclectic homes and workspaces we find in coastal Carolina.” The show runs from Friday\, Sept. 6 through Saturday\, Oct. 12. An opening reception to meet and speak with the artist is set for Friday evening from 5 – 7 p.m. We hope to see you!

DESCRIPTION:North Carolina artist Mary Welch Austin is being featured at Sunset River Gallery in Calabash\, NC as the Spotlight Artist from Sept. 16 through Nov.  2. She  has a keen appreciation for the magic of light and texture and the compositional dance of positive and negative spaces in nature.  Her acrylic and oil paintings are the product of much exposure to the fine arts and a great deal of ‘moving about’ in a busy and certainly happy life.  Her works express the artist’s sense of harmony and balance. Mary’s award-winning paintings showcase the variety of coastal and inland scenes characteristic of the Carolina lowcountry region. Private collectors and designers are discovering the majesty of Austin’s land and waterscapes; her large works take centerstage in homes throughout the region. We would love to show you her landscapes and seascapes. They will take your breath away.

DESCRIPTION:We’ve all seen the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene throughout western North Carolina.  We want to help\, so we’re working through CERF+\, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping artists get ready for emergencies – and get back on their feet afterwards. The organization provides comprehensive resources\, education\, and relief programs to artists in need. In fact\, they’re already working to help artists who have been impacted by the storm. \nSunset River Gallery is putting together a show in a range of media titled N.C. Strong to run from Monday\, Oct. 14 through Saturday\, Oct. 26. Fully 100% of sales will go to CERF+ to benefit artists in western North Carolina who have been affected by Helene.
