DESCRIPTION:Techniques & Fundamentals of Acrylic Painting \n\n\nThere are two sessions of this class–morning and afternoon\, Mondays\, Jan. 12 – March 2\, The morning class will be held from 10 a.m. – 12:30 pm; Afternoon session is from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. This painting class is open to acrylic and oil painters of all skill levels. I will be sharing my expertise in acrylics\, as well as layout techniques\, composition\, value\, and color theory. Students will have the opportunity to work with photo references and are encouraged to explore their own artistic expression. The curriculum will start with a review of the fundamentals\, including creating essential tools such as a color wheel and value scale. We will also delve into composition through thumbnail sketches and study color harmony. Engaging classroom critiques will be a regular part of the learning process. Overall\, this class aims to provide a comprehensive and enriching experience for painters looking to enhance their skills and develop their personal style. DESCRIPTION:Distinctive Aesthetics: Exploring Four Artistic Narratives. Four friends. Four artists. Four wildly different approaches to their art – the common thread being that they each upend the concept of mixed media\, using tools and materials to build layered pieces in a very unexpected fashion. The creative results reflect the out-of-the-box thinking of all four. Participating artists are Kathleen Spicer\, oil paint & wood; Kathleen V. Stuart\, fiber & encaustic; Therese Bisceglia\, oil paint & found objects; Michelle McKDavis\, oil paint & thread. Each artist takes traditional painting and sculpture ideas beyond expected boundaries. We think you’ll find the work as exciting and interesting as we do!  Distinctive Aesthetics opened Saturday\, Feb. 7  and runs through Saturday\, March 28. An insightful gallery talk is set for Saturday\, March 7 at 1 p.m.

DESCRIPTION:Don’t miss our special Artist Spotlight display featuring SC artist Roseann Bellinger from Feb. 9 – April 11. Roseann works primarily in acrylic but you’ll find her painting in oil as well.  Roseann’s coastal marshscapes and still life compositions depict a vivid path of light and vibrant abstracts. Citing influences that include Asher Brown Durand\, Claude Monet\, and Robert Motherwell\, the artist says\, “It is the challenge of conveying an emotion to the viewer that constantly drives me. The four artists are being featured in the gallery’s current show\, Distinctive Aesthetics: Exploring Four Artistic Narratives. These are four good friends with four wildly different approaches to their art – the common thread being that they each upend the concept of mixed media\, using tools and materials to build their layered pieces in very unexpected fashion. After an introduction by gallery director Samantha Spalti\, a panel discussion among the artists coupled with Q&A from the audience is sure to result in a lively exchange.
