Unstick Your Brain Part 2 – So You Want to be a Painter

Saturday October 18, 11am – 3pm, with a break (bring snacks).
Instructor Samantha Spalti. This is a one day (4-hour) workshop about using the elements and principles of art and basic color theory to create art. This is an exploratory workshop; we will be painting studies and will not be leaving with finished work. (Not necessary to have attended Part One!)$45, non-refundable
Materials. Paper, water, cups, and paper towels will be supplied. Bring your own paints and brushes, whatever medium you are most comfortable with, but make sure you have some variation of a red, yellow, and blue, a white and an ochre. If you have a warm and cool red, yellow, and blue, even better. This is are colors I have used:
titanium white
lemon yellow hue
cad yellow hue
yellow ochre
cad orange hue
pyrrole crimson
quinacridone magenta
cad red deep hue
phthalo blue
french ultramarine

Elements of Art Workshop w/Dan Beck

This two-day oil/acrylic workshop, May 11 & 12, 2024, with renowned artist Dan Beck will focus on composition, color theory, notan (the Japanese design concept involving the play and placement of light and dark elements in art), abstraction and how it affects figurative, landscape, and still life. Artists should have knowledge of value, composition, and basic tenets of painting. Materials list: Paints, palette, and medium to include warms and cools; three canvases, your choice of size and material; brushes and cleansers (no turpentine please, odorless material only); easel. Lunch break will be 12 noon – 1 p.m. Bring your own and eat in the classroom or eat locally. $350. Non-refundable 50% deposit of $175 due at registration. Balance due March 11.
