We’re pleased to announce that once again, Waterway Art Association will be holding its Spring Show and Sale right here at the gallery! This is always a popular event, featuring works in oil, pastel, mixed media, watercolor, acrylic, photography, and more – all by some of the most talented artists in the area. An especially exciting part of this 33rd Annual Spring Show & Sale is the Art Raffle where guests can purchase tickets to win from over 60 original pieces donated especially for the Art Raffle. Proceeds from the Raffle provide funds for Waterway’s annual Visual Arts Scholarship to assist a deserving student seeking higher education and/or vocational studies beyond secondary education. An Awards & Recognition Reception will be held Friday, April 26 from 5 – 7 p.m. The public is invited. Dot painting is a technique where dots are painted using special tools to create designs. For this Paint & Party class, we’ll be decorating two four-inch tiles in one of two designs: a sea turtle or a geometric mandala design. Tools and how-to’s are included. Once oven-cured, these can be used as coasters. Samantha will take you through it dot by dot, so don’t be intimidated. We’ll have fun. As always, bring your besties and get ready to party or come solo and make new friends! Bring your own snacks and beverages; gallery supplies everything else! $35 nonrefundable.

The course will begin with examination of reference photos and things to be aware of in your photos. We will learn how to see the important areas of your photo to help develop a likeness.
We will be discussing colors that will aid in telling the story. The painting process begins by building layers, saving your lights, adding darks and considering backgrounds.
You will be encouraged to work on more than one painting, but taking your time to really study your reference.

This is a show for both functional and sculptural 3D art. All work must be for sale and artists must be from North or South Carolina. We are seeking art made from clay, fiber, glass, wood, metal or any medium that makes 3D work. Creativity, artistry, and skill will be key factors of acceptance in the show. Applications are due March 30, 2024. Jury dates are March 31 – April 4, 2024. Show will run May 3 – June 8, 2024.
From gallery director Sam Spalti: We are looking for unique and original takes on sculptural and functional works. Your artistic expression is valued, however, we aim for a professional standard in our submissions. Please strive for a level of quality that meets these standards.
Freestanding work must be stable. Wall mounted workouts be no more than 30 pounds and include hardware for hanging (no sawtooth hangers, please!) The only size requirement is that it must be able to fit through our front doors (80″ H x 68″W).

Sunset River Gallery in Calabash, NC will present Girl Power, a juried exhibit of multiple media from Saturday, Feb. 10 through Friday, March 16, gallery director Samantha Spalti has announced. The show, which consists of North and South Carolina artists, strives to explore the multifaceted dimensions of what it means to identify as a woman in today’s world. Delving into themes that include motherhood, stereotype, self-worth, strength, defiance and struggle, participating artists are presenting a broad range of interpretation. At press time, Spalti said, “Jurying for Girl Power continues for a few more days; so far, response has been wonderful. I love how artists look at the world.”
